Scotland Discoveries

with Christine Woodcock

As a young child immersed in Scottish culture and tradition, Christine was aware of some “urban legends”. Although she had traveled to Scotland several times, it wasn’t until she traveled there as an adult that the richness of those stories were brought to life. Many, in fact, were not myths but reality. She will share these discoveries with us.

A GENEALOGICAL JOURNEY – Ron LaPlante

June Webinar

It all started when Ron inherited a 20-gallon Tupperware container of snapshots from his parents. Luckily, some had names and dates written on them. Thus began his journey of researching and documenting two branches of his Paternal Family Tree – drawing him back to 1600.

Besides building the family tree, he also documented key findings in a 300-page family history book – distributing 85 copies of both to his immediate family. At present, he is writing a novel based on the exploits of his great (X7) grandmother…

Join in the dialogue with Ron as we discuss the ins and outs, ups and downs of Family Tree research.

Date: Monday, June 13 at 7:00 pm E.D.T.

Finding Them on the Ground in Ontario

One of the challenges we face when trying to pinpoint where our rural Ontario ancestors lived is finding records with information such as the township, concession and lot. Knowing this information is the starting place for finding land instruments such as deeds and even wills. In this presentation Ken McKinlay will show us how to find that information using census records, directories, voters’ lists, and other publically available records.

Bruce County Genealogical Society’s January 2021 Webinar

You likely already know John Kaminski from his presentation earlier this year regarding tracing Eastern European roots.  He has given the AGEN20 (Adele’s Genealogy 2020) bug to his wife and has increased his researching knowledge by helping   Adele trace her French Canadian heritage.  Using at least 6 online sources, they have been able to trace Adele’s maternal lineage through documentation back to the early 1700’s, almost all exclusively born in Nouvelle France.

John and Adele have not pursued much farther back than her 7th great grandparents, but know there are a few Acadian and French links, including Filles du Roi, convicted salt smugglers and military personalities

It has been a wild ride through Canadian history not taught in the classrooms!
